Snuneymuxw

Ay Lelum is a multi-generational Coast Salish Design House and Recording Artist from Nanaimo, B.C., located on the Snuneymuxw First Nation. Sisters, Aunalee and Sophia record music in hul'q'umi'num' language and English as part of the design process for collections, capturing the essence of Coast Salish culture through art, language, music and wearable art garments. They feature Traditional Coast Salish Art by their Brother, the late Joel Good and their Father, the late Dr. William Good. Their music draws from cultural teachings, stories, songs and artwork taught by their late Father, where they often featured him while following his strict cultural protocols. Each song has a unique attribute, like having a family member participate by singing, also by using traditional and non-conventional instruments, such as the sound of carving wood, wool strands or spinning wool incorporated into the beats by Rob the Viking. They combine ancient and traditional art forms with modern garments and beats, while designing their collections in conjunction with their music to create a modern form of storytelling. Ay Lelum are verified Spotify Artists and their music has been featured in many videos and in film. The Good family are members of the Snuneymuxw First Nation.
